Due to the unstable nature of the top-flight calendar following the winter break, Chelsea could be obliged to play thirteen games in only six weeks.
Due to an increase in the number of Covid cases among clubs, Premier League fixtures have been postponed across the UK. As a result, games must be rescheduled into an already congested calendar.
Chelsea may suffer as a result of the inclusion of these Premier League encounters to the Carabao Cup, FA Cup, and European knockout games.
Chelsea's match against Brighton has been rescheduled, according to the Premier League. In February, Thomas Tuchel's squad was scheduled to play against Brighton in the Premier League.
The date was rescheduled to December 29 due to Chelsea's participation in the Club World Cup.
However, due to a Covid epidemic among the Blues' players, the game was temporarily cancelled.
As a result, the match has been rescheduled for Tuesday, January 18th, at 8:00 p.m.
The game could be rescheduled if either team is required to play an FA Cup replay.
If everything goes according to plan, the match will take place between Chelsea's games against Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur. Tuchel will be frustrated by the circumstances since, by the end of January, Chelsea will have played 16 matches in just two months.
This, however, is the least of their concerns, as they will continue to compete in five different tournaments in the future.
As a result, the Blues' schedule in February and March might be brutal, with Tuchel's team perhaps playing thirteen games in only six weeks.
On Saturday, February 12, Chelsea was scheduled to play Arsenal at Stamford Bridge. The game was postponed due to their participation in the Club World Cup. As a result, Chelsea will have to schedule the rescheduled match for later in February or March. This might happen on the 15th or 16th of February or the 8th or 9th of March.
Chelsea may also have to reschedule their match against Leicester on February 27 if they reach the Carabao Cup final. As a result, they will have to find another suitable date to accommodate the visitors.
Chelsea also has four Premier League games to play against Crystal Palace, Burnley, Newcastle, and Norwich.
Chelsea's match against Norwich, on the other hand, could present additional issue, as the Blues could be forced to play in the FA Cup quarter-final instead. During this time, Tuchel's team will also face Lille twice in the Champions League and compete in the FIFA Club World Cup.
The Blues boss has previously spoken out about the demanding schedule and backed Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick's call to restore five substitutes.
'I'd like to argue for five substitutions because five substitutions were made to safeguard the players during a difficult period when Covid came on,' he explained.
'The situation is quite serious, demanding, and difficult. If we decide to play on, we should have at least five substitutions for the players' health.'Tuchel went on to express his general reservations about Covid, adding, 'Of course, it's the same problem for us as it is for everyone else, and we have concerns [over Covid].' We are not only football players and coaches, but also fathers and family members, so we are concerned, fearful, and in uncertain situations, which is not pleasant.
